A figure of speech whose name in Greek means
`speaking well (of something)'. To speak or
write euphemistically is to use a milder,
more polite, less direct, or even less honest
expression rather than one that is considered
too blunt, vulgar, direct, or revealing.
Thus, `he passed away' is used in place of he
died; `sleep with someone' substitutes for
have sex with someone; and `liquidate the
opposition' softens the impact of kill one's
enemies.
